2004
State Representative Fran Bradley announced today his intention to run for the Minnesota House of Representatives, House District 29B. "The voters of the northern Rochester area have given me the honor and privilege of serving and I have, in turn, established a record of recognized, effective leadership. With their support and partnership, we will continue to make a significant positive difference," Bradley stated.
Bradley is known in legislative circles for his commonsense, analytically and results based leadership style. He has been recognized for his compassionate advocacy and effective lawmaking abilities by disability, elderly and mental health advocate groups. Arc Minnesota twice named Bradley Legislator of the Year. Other groups formally recognizing Bradley's accomplishments include the Association of Minnesota Counties, the National Association for the Mentally Ill, Care Providers, Minnesota Health & Housing Alliance, the Minnesota Medical Association, the Minnesota Pharmacists Association, ARRM, and the Taxpayers League.
As chair of the Health & Human Services Finance Committee, Representative Bradley oversees expenditures totaling $7 billion per year. He has lead the effort to bring more accountability and better outcomes in the many human services programs under his committee's charge. Bradley was a key member of the bipartisan welfare reform and long-term care reform task forces. He has championed modern quality assurance methods to replace wasteful and ineffective bureaucratic regulation. His battles have taken him to Washington D.C., where he won a fight to allow bed rails in nursing homes.
Representative Bradley came to the legislature in 1995, after a 30-year career with IBM. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering from South Dakota State University and did graduate work at the University of Minnesota. He has been active in church, school and community activities, including a year as president of the Minnesota Jaycees. Among his many community awards is his selection as one of Ten Outstanding Young Minnesotans.
Mary and Fran Bradley have been married 40 years. They have four children and four grandchildren. Another ten high school and college students are part of their extended family as international exchange students.
"My life values are focused on my Faith, my Family, my Community and my Career. I will continue to serve with honor and humility as I work to maintain balance in my life," Bradley concluded. He can be reached at rep.fran.bradley@house.mn, www.franbradley.org, and 288-3439.
